Learning to live the best life possible.

Feb. 5th 1980…My Favorite Day in History

That’s right.  Feb. 5th, 1980 is the day that my beautiful wife was born.  She turned 29 yesterday and it was the first birthday she’s had since we met.  That being the case, I tried to make it special.  Without being sappy or running on and on about uniteresting details, I’ll give you skinny.

We had dinner at a really great French restaurant.  Went to see Slumdog Millionaire.  And, stayed in a really great loft-style hotel for the night.  Sure, I had “pre-strewn” the room with flowers and had a bottle of her favorite Argentine Malbec waiting for us, but that’s a frill and I’m trying to omit those sort of details.

One detail that I won’t omit is the fact that something in my dinner didn’t sit right with me.  So for a solid 4 hours of the night (in the middle of the night) I had my head in the toilet making some pretty primal noises.

All is good though.  I woke up feeling pretty great and we’re on our way to Chicago tonight.  We’ll be attending a wedding there tomorrow.  This will also be my first chance to meet 3 of my tenants and a great opportunity to catch up with Ron May, who officiated our wedding, and Jackson Crum, my old pastor.  We’ll be staying with Jason and Jenny Desmarais (Jason was the best man in our wedding).

Anyhow, that’s the skinny, as promised.

PS – How does a person (referencing Manny Ramirez) turn down an offer for 25 MILLION DOLLARS to play baseball for 1 (yes, one) year?   Unbelievable.

Welcome Friends

As our first post, Emily and I would like to welcome friends and family to our own little slice of the internet.  We plan on posting on a regular basis and want to invite you to take part in our lives by reading and commenting on an equally regular basis.

Just to get you started, if you didn’t know, we’re married and we live in Lynchburg, VA.  I was recently hired to direct the local Young Professionals organization and Emily just got a big promotion at work.  I work for the regional government and Emily is a professor at a local university.

We have a dog, Backstop, who’s brilliant, well-behaved, and has a little bit of a gimpy left knee.

Emily’s sister (Lauren) and brother-in-law (Eric) live here in Lynchburg, about 2 miles away, with their twin 4yr old sons (Grant and Owen), 2yr old daughter (Cora), and 1 month old daughter (Ruby).  They’re definitely the best part of living in Lynchburg…along with the mostly mild winter.
